How To Market Your Business On Social Media – Follow 3 Marketers

 

The video above was shot when I went on a road trip to visit my father in Essex (UK).

I basically show you how I approach a new topic.

I follow the top 3 marketers in that space and learn as much as I can before I move onto a new topic.

So, what are the best ways to market your business and your side hustle on social media?

From my point of view, you need to follow 3 marketers to be effective.

The idea is to follow them and engage with them whilst consuming their content.

The reason I suggest following only 3 is so you can concentrate all of your efforts on learning from them and not get too distracted by too many others offering advice.

What a lot of people do is follow and consume content from many different people and they then start getting confused, not remembering who said what, where and how (been there, got the T-shirt).

The key is consistency

Once you’ve chosen your 3 marketers, you need to reverse-engineer everything they do. This means breaking down in a detailed way how they go about their business online.

It’s a good idea to consume all of their free content,  however, I would also suggest buying any courses or eBooks they have for sale (you normally find the golden nuggets there).

Mimic their ideas

Mimic the way in which they speak to their followers and how they interact with them. Study the type of content they post, when they post and the frequency. Instead of reinventing the wheel, you simply need to craft your content the exact same way.

That being said; you can always change and adapt your content and schedule to your own audience later. But, for now, just mimic their whole structure completely.

Have you heard of the phrase “focused learning”? Yes, it’s great to get information from as many different resources as possible BUT it does have a tendency to cause complete confusion – you don’t remember who gave a certain piece of advice and you definitely can’t remember why someone told you NOT to do something.

By breaking down your teachers to just 3, there should be no confusion.

Make notes on each person and then figure out which bit of advice you want to take and rule out the bits you don’t. I would also advise you to learn as much as you can from these three and test things out for yourself to see what works for you.

From here, you now have the possibility of choosing a new project and another set of top marketers to follow once you have finished learning from the original 3.

It doesn’t matter how many topics you choose to learn – always choose 3 from each topic and focus on your learning from them.

For example, for the last few months, I’ve been following Neil Patel (NeilPatel.com), Brian Dean (Backlinko.com) and Tim Urban (Waitbutwhy.com).

All 3 are completely different content marketers but they are at the top of the game in their respective niches.

I learnt what I could from them these last 3 months and now I’m following 3 of the top YouTube marketers for next 3 months.

Can you see how this works?

This focused learning means my learning and my own execution is also focused.
